Dance day for kids

By Kelly Yates
A LOCAL dance school raised $500 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal by holding jazz and hip hop classes at the Timbarra community hall.
Jessica Solomon, principal of Backstage Dance Academy, said the Easter themed day was a success, attracting more than 100 students from the ages of two to 18.
It was the first time the school had fundraised for a charity event.
“The day had a great Easter vibe. Everyone was there to have a good time and raise money for a good cause,” she said.
“I was really pleased with the amount of money we raised. We’d definitely do it again.”
Ms Solomon charged each child $5 to participate in the dance classes.
She decided to register for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal as it appealed to her dance school.
“If ever any of the children in my school were sick, I’d like to think that we helped to raise funds for the hospital,” she said.
Backstage Dance Academy will be celebrating its first birthday on 16 April.
