School’s show judged a beauty

St Francis Xavier College has come up trumps at a Casey-wide musical-stage competition.
The college production of Beauty and the Beast won the Schools On Stage premier division on 7 September, followed by Kooweerup Secondary College’s performance of Fiddler on the Roof.
Eleven schools competed across two divisions, exhibiting hours of hard work and dedication, said Casey councillor Wayne Smith.
“It thrills me to see young people pursuing their interests in the arts, and Schools on Stage is a fantastic opportunity for young people to reach their full potential.”
The event’s host Tim Campbell performed Shout, accompanied by dancers from Alkira Secondary College.
They were later announced as open division winners for their take on Singing In the Rain.
“This year I am thrilled that the students have had the opportunity to perform their musicals with a live orchestra, which in some cases was the first time that these students have performed on stage,” Cr Smith said.
“As an audience, we were treated to an entertaining night, watching exceptional talent that makes for a very promising future for the arts in Casey.”
The contest has been run by City of Casey for seven years.
