LOCAL students are being encouraged to take part in Walk Safely to School Day next month.
Federal MP Jason Wood said schools throughout Australia would take part in the event on Friday 2 May.
Walk Safely to School Day has been organised by the Pedestrian Council of Australia.
“I would encourage local school children to participate where feasible in this great initiative,” Mr Wood said.
“It is a great idea to encourage healthy and active children and this initiative is supported by some very reputable organisations, including the Heart Foundation, the Cancer Council, Planet Ark, Diabetes Australia and Beyond Blue in conjunction with the Commonwealth Government.”
“Local schools can support the day by holding activities including breakfasts or information sessions about healthy and active lifestyles for children.”
