Men’s Shed looking for a home

By Cam Lucadou-Wells

A Narre Warren Men’s Shed is a fine idea – but without a home.
The Rotary Club of Narre Warren is backed by Casey Council in its quest to find a long-term site to spread community cheer.
Men’s Sheds are recognised as providing friendly hang-outs and hives of activity for its members. They educate as well as socialise and integrate.
They also give a place of belonging for members who have been “transitioned” from the workforce.
A feasibility study found a “high need” for such a hub in Narre Warren, Rotary branch president Mamad Amin said.
“We need something to help elderly people, to reduce mental illness and suicide.
“Plus it’s just good for the community to come together, work together and have a social interaction.”
The closest sheds are in Cranbourne, Narre North, Endeavour Hills and Berwick.
The project requires sponsorship, whether from Casey, the State Government or local businesses, Mr Amin said.
Some of the proceeds from the club’s recent charity golf day are going towards the cause.
Casey Council recently passed a motion for its officers to support Rotary “explore options” for establishing the Narre Warren Men’s Shed.
A council report will be prepared by April 2018.
