Long age is in the genes – and a wee dram

Surrounded by four generations of family, a Berwick man celebrated a lofty milestone in the Dandenong Ranges.
Colin Ferguson recently celebrated his 98th birthday with 47 family members including four children, 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild.
The retired engineer and Scottish migrant was joined at the special reunion at Emerald Lake by family as far away as Queensland.
Mr Ferguson, who still walks to keep fit, attributes his longevity to great genes and parentage.
He also makes a point of not over-indulging.
“Oh, and a nip of whiskey, not too much,” he adds.
