Taking council to task

By Cam Lucadou-Wells

Casey Council is set to appoint its own watchdog.
The ‘Community Taskforce’ will comprise 20 community members – a team that will closely match Casey’s demographics.
The members will reflect Casey’s age, gender, language spoken at home, place of birth, employment status and location.
The taskforce formed out of the list of 24 recommendations by the 2017 Casey People’s Panel.
Casey mayor Geoff Ablett said the taskforce would monitor how Casey implements its Vision and Council Plan 2017-21.
“We listened to the Casey People’s Panel and the launch of the Community Taskforce clearly represents our commitment to act on each of the panel’s recommendations.”
It will meet three times a year, as well as provide input to major projects and interact with the council via an online portal.
The taskforce’s membership will be reviewed annually.
Expressions of interest to join the 2018 taskforce close at 5pm on Friday 16 February.
