NARRE Warren North’s scouts cooked damper and danced the night away as they celebrated their 75th anniversary on Anzac Day.
This year marks the 100th year of the scout in Australia and for the Narre Warren North scouts reaching the 75th anniversary was a milestone.
The Narre Warren North scout hall was open to the community last Friday from 11am and attracted more than 250 people.
Incoming chief commissioner of Victorian Scouts Bob Taylor unveiled the anniversary plaque.
The scouts built a rope bridge, took part in arts and craft activities and cooked damper on the day.
There was also a heritage badge display from the Australian badge club.
One of the first Narre Warren North scouts and World War II veteran Les Mills attended the celebration.
Group president Bruce Ellis and former scout said that joining the scouts was continually getting more popular.
“It keeps going from strength to strength,” he said.
Mr Ellis said scouting provided good grounding life skills with the opportunities to take part in outdoor activities, learn about the local community and meet new people.
Scouts range from the ages of six to 26 years.
The Narre Warren North scouts hold several fundraising events throughout the year and Mr Ellis said they were lucky to receive support from council grants and local MPs such as Luke Donnellan, who also made a special appearance at their Anzac Day celebrations.
