Hospital boost, more station parking

– Callan Date
CASEY Hospital patients and Berwick train commuters are among the big local winners following the release of the State Government’s Budget on Tuesday.
Motorists who use the notorious Pound Road-South Gippsland Highway-South Gippsland Freeway intersection will also be delighted with the announcement of a major upgrade to ease congestion.
Budget highlights for the City of Casey include:
* $4.2 million expansion of the special care nursery at Casey Hospital.
* $36 million for major upgrades to the Pound Road-South Gippsland Highway-South Gippsland Freeway intersection.
* 209 extra car parks at Berwick train station.
* Extension of the Night Rider bus service to Berwick, Narre Warren, Beaconsfield and Cranbourne.
* $9.5 million for the new Berwick Selective Entry Secondary College.
Local MPs Judith Graley, Tammy Lobato and Luke Donnellan said they were both thrilled with the funding earmarked for the local area.
“It is lovely that mums and their little babies will be able to spend more time close together with the expansion of the special care nursery at Casey Hospital,” Ms Graley said.
“And the money for Pound Road is just a bonza result for local motorists.”
Mr Donnellan said: “This Budget is an action plan to maximise the opportunities and address the challenges of a growing population by providing the best possible services and infrastructure for local families.”
