Sing out for schools festival

MORE than 400 school children will take part in the City of Casey Choral Festival next week.
The event will be hosted by the Berwick Youth Choir (BYC), with support from the City of Casey, and will take place at the Berwick Church of Christ on Friday 16 May.
BYC director Tania Casey said she had been impressed by the response from local schools.
“We contacted all the primary schools in the area and a good number have joined us. I only hope we can fit everyone in,” Ms Casey said.
Each school will perform their own item and this will be followed by the finale which will involve all the school children plus the BYC choir.
“It should really top off a wonderful night,” she said.
Ms Casey said music was a vital component in the education of children at school.
“Music education is just so important for everyone.
“It not only teaches children important skills, disciplines and attitudes, it reinforces so many other areas of learning such as maths, literacy and expression.
“It is the right of every child to be able to learn and express themselves through music,” she said.
The schools participating with the BYC include St Paul Apostle North and St Paul Apostle South, Maranatha Christian School as well as Berwick, Cranbourne West, James Cook and Hillsmeade primary schools.
