AN 850-strong crowd flocked to Cranbourne Harness Racing Club’s Girl’s Night Out meeting on Saturday night.
The attendance was up 15 per cent on last year and patrons saw five-year-old bay gelding Sportivo romp home in the night’s feature race, the Ladd Electrical Pace, over 2105 metres.
Short-priced favourite Luv Tha Aces Lombo was next past the post, ahead of In Monaco.
The other big winner was the Kate Gath-driven La Biscuit, whose victory in the Mitchell Water Trotters Handicap gave it three successive triumphs at Cranbourne.
Trainer Michael Hughes and driver Jodi Quinlan flew the flag for the locals, combining to take out the Sharp and Pendrey Pace with Image of Ella.
Off the track, there was loads of entertainment for women, including a fashion show, a fashions on the field competition, and health and fitness demonstrations.
Cranbourne Harness Club CEO David Scott was thrilled with the night’s proceedings and said there would be further additions to the program next year.
“It was very good. The crowd was excellent,” he said.
“The events were all added this year and we’ll build on them again in 2009.”
The club is now looking forward to its next feature event, its Christmas in July meeting, on Saturday 12 July.
