New children’s centre a maze of discovery

By Kelly Yates
BERWICK’S $1.3 million Bridgewater Children’s Centre was officially opened last Friday by the City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall.
The Berwick South centre will cater for four kindergarten groups and the first classes started a few weeks ago.
Cr Halsall said she was proud to open the Bridgewater Children’s Centre.
“It will provide 108 of Casey’s children with modern, state-of-the-art kindergarten facilities,” she said.
Casey has more than 3500 births each year.
“Children under the age of four make up nearly 10 per cent of our population so the continuing development of infrastructure and services such as this is of upmost importance,” she said.
The cutting-edge design of the centre ensures maximum natural light is captured, creating an open air space for children to engage in learning and play.
One of the highlights of the centre is the landscaped play area that includes a tree maze, sand pit, digging patch and turf area to encourage active, investigative play and learning for the children.
