Sales pitch at sports luncheon

– Callan Date
TAKING centre stage in a room full of more than 200 women may be seen as a somewhat daunting task for any man.
Getting auctioned off in front of the entire crowd to a somewhat loud and fun-loving table – well it was all in the name of charity.
Last week’s MPNFL Celebrating Women in Sport luncheon at the Cranbourne Golf Club was hailed as a major success by all those who attended.
The day raised major awareness, as well as much needed funds, for breast cancer research and was supported by the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF)
MPNFL CEO Steve Pallas requested the attendance of respected Australian netballer Bianca Chatfield, Richmond footballer Greg Tivendale and former St Kilda star Aussie Jones.
All three, along with myself, were auctioned off to the highest bidding tables.
Not being able to tell the crowd about representing Australia or playing more than 200 AFL games, I pitched my selling point on the ability to get a picture of the winning table in the News.
It worked. The four auctions raised just under $1000 and the day was a roaring success.
