THE vicious bashing of two young men outside Narre Warren Police Station last Saturday morning has ignited debate about an early morning nightclub lock-out in Casey.
Jason and David, who asked for their surnames to be withheld, were set upon by up to 15 youths as they left the 1422 nightclub about 12.30am.
David suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain as a result of the beating.
Narre Warren local Jason, 19, had his jaw broken in two places.
Both men have since been released from hospital.
Narre Warren Senior Detective Justin Stanton said a minor scuffle had taken place on the dance floor at the Lauderdale Road club about 30 minutes before the major attack.
“There was an altercation and Jason and his friends were evicted from the nightclub by security,” Sen Det Stanton said.
“Members of the other group were also kicked out about 15 minutes later.”
Jason and David reported the nightclub incident to police and were waiting outside the station when they were set upon by three car loads of men.
“It was a cowardly act because there were about 15 of them on to a few of us,” Jason said.
“I got clocked in the eye and another friend (David) got hit on the head with a metal bar.”
Sen Det Stanton said the attackers were quick to retreat to their cars, but not before their victims inflicted some damage to the vehicles.
“We are looking at security footage from the nightclub and also patron IDs that were scanned to get into the nightclub.
“We are also hoping someone has seen or even repaired the damaged cars.”
Two mid to late ‘90s model Holden Statesman cars, one which was burgundy in colour, and a third dark coloured vehicle were used by the attackers, police said.
Sen Det Stanton said anyone who had seen or repaired the damaged vehicles may have some vital information about the people responsible for the crime.
He said all three cars sustained several broken windows and panel damage.
Casey Acting Police Inspector Bruce Kitchen told the News the latest attack was of serious concern to police.
But a Casey night club lock-out, similar to that recently implemented across the Melbourne CBD and the Frankston CBD, was unlikely.
“In relation to Casey there is a liquor accord and all licensed venues within the City of Casey come under that liquor accord,” Insp Kitchen said.
“As far as going from one place to another, it is probably irrelevant in Casey as most nightclubs are so spread out and the patrons don’t tend to do that.”
Insp Kitchen said he would follow up the incident and talk to 1422 management.
Anyone with any information about the attack is asked to contact Sen Det Stanton on 9705 3114.
