A NARRE Warren mother has snapped her way to winning the annual Spirit of Casey Photo Competition.
Ana Wines was announced as the overall winner at the official awards ceremony on Saturday 14 June for her unique Casey ARC Water Wonderland photo.
The mother of two said this was the first time she had entered the competition.
“I was surprised and extremely excited to win,” she said.
The budding photographer has been fascinated with photography since she was nine years old.
She said her winning photo captured the theme of youth in Casey.
“My eight-year-old daughter Britney was the subject in the photo. I think it’s a true and emotive piece of art.”
Ms Wines said she probably took more photos than a professional photographer, taking more than 2,000 photos in the past six months.
“I always carry my camera around with me. You never know what you’re going to see,” she said.
The competition attracted more than 68 entries.
Ms Wines also won a highly commended award for her Berwick Springs photo and was commended for her Childhood Memories and Old Cheese Factory creations.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall said the competition gave the community an opportunity to use their creative abilities to capture the faces, places and good times that represent what people love about living in Casey.
“It was clear that from the entries that people could find lots of reasons why they think Casey is a great place to live, which they expressed in both the pictures and in the words of their captions,” she said.
Some of the popular shots and themes showcased at the competition included Berwick’s Wilson Botanic Park, Myuna Farm, the Berwick Show and Cranbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens.
Ms Wines said she drew her inspiration from her husband Robert and her two children, Britney and Ella.
“When it comes down to it, it’s all about family,” she said.
