BUDDING writers are urged to put their pens to paper and enter a free competition.
Fresh Words is a competition for up and coming writers who live, work or study in Casey.
To help writers develop their skills, the Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation and the City of Casey will be running two free writing workshops on Tuesday 1 July with author Archie Fusillo.
Mr Fusillo started his career as a full time writer after the success of his first novel, Sparring With Shadows.
Some of his other books include The Dons, An Earful of Static and Bruises: Boys Don’t Cry.
The workshops will be held at the Cranbourne Library from 10am to 11.30am and the Narre Warren Library from 1.30pm to 3pm.
The three categories in the Fresh Words competition include creative writing, poetry and lyrics and English as a second language, for students who are enrolled in an ESL course.
Entries will be judged by age group 12 to 14 years, 15 to 16 years and 17 to 18 years and the winners will be announced during National Literacy and Numeracy Week in September.
The closing date for all submissions is 5pm on Friday 26 July.
For a list of the terms and conditions, as well as the cover sheet required for all entries, contact the council’s youth events officer Kylie Wilmot on 9705 5200.
