A P-PLATE driver caught travelling at 170km/h last Friday told police he was running late for a party in Berwick.
The 22-year-old Carrum Downs man was detected by police while driving on the Western Port Highway in Skye. He had five passengers in his car.
Traffic police said they saw the 2006 Holden Commodore sedan travelling north along the highway just before 8.30pm.
The driver was interviewed and fined $457.
The car, which was towed to the vehicle impoundment unit, was seized for 48 hours under the anti-hoon laws.
