ANIMAL rescuer Nigel Williamson is seeking a sidekick.
The criterion for employment is simple. Prospective candidates must be tree climbers, roof walkers, and animal lovers.
Nigel is the owner and operator of Nigel’s Animal Rescue Service in Devon Meadows and he is looking for a full-time handyman to rescue, remove, and rehouse animals of all kinds.
Spring is his busiest season.
“Animals emerge from hibernation and magpies start swooping,” he said.
“It feels like I’m working eight days a week at the moment, so I’ll need a helping hand by spring.”
Good communication skills will be highly regarded, but a genuine love of animals is a strict prerequisite.
“The best tree climber and roof walker in the world could apply, but unless that person loves animals, they won’t be considered,” Nigel said.
Most spring call-outs involve pesky possums and their adventures down chimneys, under roofs, and into houses.
“Apply only if you have no problem getting underneath roofs and crawling under houses,” Nigel said.
“I need someone who has no fear of handling all animals.”
The apprentice rescuer will also carry out pest-control tasks such as rat baiting.
The recruit will receive a salary of $32,000 a year plus superannuation and bonuses.
A manual car and rescue uniform will also be supplied.
Last month, Nigel appeared on the nightly news after saving a Gang Gang Cockatoo that had become stuck in the grille of a car in Berwick.
Nigel nursed the cockatoo to health and released it the next day.
To apply for the position, contact Nigel on 0427 533 083 or email nigel@animalrescue.com.au
