THE newly installed traffic lights at a Berwick intersection have been switched on.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley and Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato officially turned on the lights at the intersection of Clyde Road and Enterprise Avenue on Tuesday.
The $1.3 million road safety project not only involved the installation of the lights but also a construction of a left turn lane for cars turning northbound into Clyde Road from Enterprise Avenue.
Ms Graley said there had been a lot of community concern about the potential for crashes at the intersection.
She said the completion of the works would make it safer for all drivers.
“The completion of this project has been eagerly awaited,” she said.
“The Government has listened to the local community which campaigned strongly for these projects. Projects like these are vital to the local community and it’s important that the needs of the local community are met.”
The two MPs also announced additional funding for a controlled right turn to be installed at the intersection of Clyde Road and Kangan Drive in Berwick.
The project is expected to start early next year and will cost $828,000.
