STUDENTS were treated to an array of cultures during a diversity display at Eumemmerring College last week.
The Multicultural Day Celebration was held with great fan fare at the Hallam campus of the college.
Koori education development officer Rhonda Dye kicked off the event with a welcome to country ceremony.
Student Jess Anderson said teachers and local residents also took part in the community event, which gave locals a chance to celebrate Australia’s diverse array of cultures.
“Our patriotic students then paraded in costumes of a multitude of countries such as Afghanistan, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Fiji, New Zealand, Italy and more,” she said.
Ms Anderson said several students performed traditional dances.
“Some of the outstanding student performances of the day were the mesmerizing Hula, a fierce Hakka, a Hindi song and Mauritius dancing.”
Student activities coordinator Margaret May said the school would aim to hold a similar event again next year.
“It brought such a fantastic spirit of pride and excitement into the school for a day,” she said.
“The fact that such a venture succeeded is a testament to the enthusiasm and pride of our students who organised the event. Everyone who attended had a fantastic time and had a lot of fun. I really have to praise the students, especially the Multicultural Organising Committee led by our school’s vice-captain Finau Tuinauvai,” Ms May said.
