Casey gauges second bin use

The City of Casey is contacting residents regarding its new user-pays service charge for additional recycling bins.

Casey residents with a second recycling bin can expect to hear from the council soon as it implements changes to its recycling service.

The Council says there are now approximately 20,000 additional free recycling bins at residential properties in the municipality.According to the Council, a recent audit of the bins showed that only 40 per cent of the additional recycling bins are being put out for collection. However, the Council pays for the collection of every bin, even if they are not put out each fortnight.

At a meeting on 16 April 2019, the Council decided to introduce a user pays service charge for an additional recycling bin. Additional bins have previously been provided for free.

From 1 October 2019, the Council will be introducing a charge of $30 per year for residential properties that have a second recycling bin.

Households with a second recycling bin will soon receive a letter from the Council directly asking if:

a) You want to keep the bin at a charge of $30 per year

b) You want to return the bin

c) You do not have a second recycling bin at the property

Returned bins will be collected between 19 August and 13 September 2019.
