Casey City Council has applied for $100,000 from a State Government sporting grants program to help build netball courts at Kilora Recreation Reserve, at Clyde North.
The planned netball courts are part of a larger works program at the Kilora reserve, on Grices Road, that will eventually see a football ground, cricket oval, cricket nets, netball courts, pavilion, sporting lights, playground and carparking, as well as landscaping and footpaths.
The current application to the State’s Country Football and Netball Program hopes to obtain funds for two netball courts, player benches, fencing and lighting.
A report to last week’s council meeting noted that the project had been discussed with Sports and Recreation Victoria, and considered worthy and therefore likely to be considered for funding.
The council has already set aside $279,000 in the coming budget for the works.
If successful, the grant would offset part of the council’s contribution, allowing a $100,000 saving to ratepayers.
