Stalwarts mark 40 years

Loyal volunteers have celebrated the Hallam Friends of Red Cross’s 40th birthday at an event on Monday 17 June.

Red Cross metropolitan-zone chairperson Heather Perrott spoke on the value of volunteering and the organisation’s refugee program.

She also presented long-service medals to members Josephine Thompson (who volunteered for 30 years) and Beryl Smith (20 years).

The 20-member group regularly fundraises with raffles and street stalls, selling crafts, cakes, jam and plants.

“New members are always welcome to join in for a cuppa and socialise with friends,” president Betty Keen said.

It holds regular meetings at Hallam Community Learning Centre on the third Monday of the month.
