THE opening night of the Limelight Theatre Company’s latest production, Into the Woods, proved a great success on its first evening.
The Stephen Sondheim musical, which runs from 29 August to 6 September at the Cranbourne Community Theatre, tells the story of a fractured fairytale, involving famous characters such as Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Cinderella.
The first half of the performance was based on a traditional fairytale while the second act took a darker and twisted turn.
Director Neil Goodwin gave an excellent production.
Into the Woods is a challenging piece and the Limelight Theatre Company’s version was not only visually striking but also well acted and musically successful.
All of the performers were strong and engaging but there were those who stood out.
Catherine Booth who played Little Red Riding Hood and Drew Downing who played Jack were wonderful.
Jayde Kirchert was outstanding as the baker’s wife. She sang beautifully and fleshed out an already rich character.
The musical can be appreciated on many levels, children and adults alike, will love the fairytale.
