Butterflies and tears can overtake the first day of preps but there was nothing but grins for those starting at Berwick’s Brentwood Park Primary School.
There was excitement among the 143 preps as they embraced their first day of school on Thursday 30 January.
Assistant principal Jo-Anne Doran said it was the “most settled” class of preps they’ve had for a while with no tears.
She added while some felt anxious, most pupils were excited to embark on their education journey.
Teachers led the students on a tour of the school before engaging in reading and writing tasks.
“They loved playing the pirate ship,” Ms Doran said, as students ventured to the playground.
Ms Doran said the school this year welcomed “lots of new families and siblings”.
She said the school held four transitioned programs before the preps started their first day to help make their first day that little bit easier.
“On the whole it has been amazing,” Ms Doran said.
And this week the students will enjoy specialist programs including music, art, P.E and Chinese classes.
As children begin a new school year, parents and carers are urged to be extra vigilant during drop-off and pick up times, obey parking restrictions, keep clear of school crossings and ensure children are fitted with age appropriate car restraints.
Speed limits around schools will now drop to either 40km/h or 60km/h in the mornings from 8am to 9.30am and afternoons from 2.30pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
