GRAFFITI vandals are set to have their work wiped with free removal kits now available from the City of Casey.
City officials are encouraging residents, groups, organisations, and businesses to make the most of the do-it-yourself cleaning kits. The offer, announced last week, follows a story in the News about Hampton Park resident Derek Gardner getting out the scrubbing brush and cleaning graffiti off a bridge himself.
Mr Gardner said he grew tired of waiting for officials to clean the mess after he had reported it numerous times to Casey’s graffiti hotline.
Other residents voiced their concern that the graffiti removal service was not operating properly.
Casey mayor Janet Halsall said the free kits were available upon request and were ideal for use on small amounts of graffiti on property or belongings.
“The business community in particular is encouraged to take advantage of this initiative and support Casey’s removal program by eradicating graffiti from their own properties,” she said.
The News has highlighted several graffiti hotspots over the past few weeks.
Cranbourne, Hampton Park, and Narre Warren were the suburbs which received the most complaints about graffiti from readers.
Cr Halsall said the Department of Justice had supported council’s graffiti management program by providing $25,000 in funding for the initiative.
“The City of Casey was the first municipality in Australia to implement a local law to control graffiti and the sale of aerosol spray cans, and is one of only a handful of Victorian councils that offer free removal from qualifying private property,” she said.
Residents can get a free graffiti removal kit from council’s customer service centres at Narre Warren, Narre Warren South and Cranbourne.
An application form needs to be completed and proof of occupancy provided such as a driver’s licence or a bill showing an address within the City of Casey.
