The NightRider service will provide all-night weekend public transport to Endeavour Hills, Fountain Gate, Berwick, Beaconsfield, Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Lyndhurst, Hampton Park, Hallam and Doveton.
Cranbourne resident Jason Hills, who spoke to the News back in February about the need for the NightRider bus in Casey, said he was thrilled the bus was finally coming to the area.
Mr Hills, 35, believed that if more public transport was accessible, the number of traffic and drink driving incidents would reduce. “The NightRider will be a popular choice of transport for youths within the City of Casey.”
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said the Casey route would provide 21 late-night trips every weekend, providing residents and young people with a safe, affordable and reliable public transport option.
Cheap fares have contributed to the increasing popularity of NightRider buses, with the number of people catching the bus increasing by 24 per cent in the past year.
“Earlier this year, the NightRider service became part of the Metcard system, making it cheaper than ever,” Mr Donnellan said.
Passengers who travel on the service will also get the added bonus of being able to use a free phone on-board the bus to arrange for a taxi, if required.
The Casey Loop NightRider buses will depart from the terminus at Lonsdale Street in Dandenong in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions every 60 minutes between 1.30am and 5.30am on Saturday mornings, and every 60 minutes between 1.30am and 7.00am on Sunday mornings.
