Pair charged after wild police chase

Police have charged a man and woman following a dramatic chase that ended in Hampton Park where the pair had dumped a car and fled on Monday 27 April.

Police responded to reports a blue Ford Falcon sedan was driving erratically in the Narre Warren area about 3.30pm.

Local units located the car travelling on the Princes Highway at Berwick and discovered it was unregistered with stolen plates, police say.

The police Air Wing then assisted the officers on ground and followed the car where it allegedly reach speeds of 150hm/h in the emergency lane on the Monash Freeway.

The driver of the Ford continued to Hampton Park and dumped the car in Nola Court before attempting to flee on foot with his passenger.

With the assistance of the Dog Squad, police arrested the pair shortly after and allegedly located what is believed to be cannabis and stolen plates inside the car.

The 37-year-old Narre Warren South man has been charged with reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, dangerous driving, handle stolen goods, possess drug of dependence, disqualified driving, use unregistered motor vehicle and commit indictable offence while on bail.

The 28-year-old Hampton woman has been charged with theft and four counts of commit indictable offence while on bail.

Both were remanded to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 28 April.

While committing the offences, the pair were also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and were issued a $1652 penalty notice.

The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Emergency declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.
