Broadband speeds up

By Lia Bichel
STUDENTS in Narre Warren North will benefit from a technological advancement funded by the Brumby Government’s $89.3 million Vic Smart initiative, said MP Luke Donnellan.
The government announced all Victorian Government schools will receive a major broadband upgrade to increase their high-speed broadband capacity from four to10 megabits-per-second.
Mr Donnellan said students were already reaping the benefits of the initiative. The upgrade allows them to access the internet and share resources quickly, ensuring that students can share information with each other and access the almost limitless resources of the internet at near instantaneous speeds.
“This government sees education as its number one priority and that’s why Narre Warren North students will now be able to access and share information and on-line resources nearly two and a half times faster,” he said.
Mr Donnellan said the VicSmart initiative is also an example of the Brumby Government’s commitment to improve the already world-class broadband technology of Victorian government schools and to ensure that every child has every opportunity to the best start in life through a great education.
The upgrades will begin this month and are expected to be completed in June 2009.
