Ray Bennett found a wallet a couple of months ago while shopping in Westfield Fountain Gate and returned it to the customer service desk, hoping that if it were him in the same situation someone would do the same.
“I didn’t even open it. That’s just the way I am. I felt sorry for the person who left it behind,” he said.
To Mr Bennett’s surprise, he found himself in the same situation last Wednesday, while shopping at Casey Central in Narre Warren South.
“I frantically searched the car and around the house, and then the penny dropped. I too had lost my wallet,” he said.
The following morning, Mr Bennett returned to the shopping precinct in hope of finding his wallet.
“I checked with the staff at Coles but nothing had been handed in,” he said.
Mr Bennett said he was astounded when he approached the Tattslotto Agency and the man behind the counter handed over his lost wallet.
“I thought I’d never see it again. I was so thankful because everything was still in there,” he said.
“All of this makes my wife and I think that Narre Warren South is not a bad place to live.”
