RIVER Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith is the longest serving councillor for the City of Casey.
Cr Smith, teacher at Fountain Gate Secondary College, said he was pleased and honoured to hold the position again, making it his sixth election term.
“It gets harder each time and this race has definitely not been an easy one,” he said.
Cr Smith expressed his disappointment at former mayor Janet Halsall’s not gaining a spot.
“It’s a sad loss for the City of Casey.
“We worked well as a team for the past few years,” he said.
Cr Smith said he would continue to be an advocate for the arts within the municipality.
“We’ve had a clean sweep at Casey and it’s time to get council’s reputation back,” he said.
Cr Smith told the News his work commitments would prevent him from putting his hand up for mayor.
“One of the existing councillors needs to be mayor for this term,” he said.
“It’s Lorraine’s turn and I’ll be voting for her,” Cr Smith said.
