Covid climbs

Covid-19 infections have again climbed in Casey with 29 new cases recorded, according to the state’s latest health data.

Casey’s active cases now stand at 243 –  an increase of 20 cases in the 24 hours to Friday 31 July – which now surpasses the local government area of Mooney Valley’s active cases (212) and 36 cases fewer than Melbourne.

Victoria has recorded 627 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 10,577.

In neighbouring Great Dandenong, there are now 156 active cases. However, Cardinia’s active cases dropped by one case to 34 active cases.

Fifty-five cases are linked to Outlook Gardens aged-care home in Dandenong North.
The state’s total has risen to 5743 active cases, including 614 infected health care workers.

There have been eight new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday.  They were two men in their 50s, two men in their 70s, one woman in her 70s and three men in their 80s. Four of the eight deaths are linked to known outbreaks in aged care facilities. To date, 113 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

There are 349 hospital patients with Covid-19, with 36 in intensive care.

As Eid al-Adha has began, the Department of Health and Human Services says its important for Victorians to stay safe and protect their family and community.

“We understand this is a sacrifice for Victorian Muslims, but while we may be physically apart, we can be spiritually connected,” a statement read.
