A MAN had a lucky escape when his car ploughed through a fence and into a backyard pool in Hampton Park last Wednesday.
Constable Peter Singh from the Cranbourne police station said the 19-year-old Hampton Park man lost control at a roundabout and careered into the pool at around 4.15pm.
Const Singh said the driver panicked, and instead of hitting the brake, pushed on the accelerator.
“The accident was just driver error,” he said.
Police said the man managed to scramble free before his car sank.
Cranbourne police, Hampton Park CFA and intensive care paramedics, advanced life support paramedics and a single responder intensive care paramedic were called to the house.
Intensive care paramedic David Kervin, who arrived at the scene within two minutes, said the driver was able to climb out of the pool with the help of bystanders.
“He wasn’t injured, but was quite shaken by what happened,” he said.
“It’s just incredibly lucky that it wasn’t warmer weather, or there may have been children playing in the pool after school.”
