Casey’s art catch

SCULPTURES from the 2006 Commonwealth Games celebrations in Melbourne have been placed in two key Casey locations.
“Council is delighted that two of the aquatic sculptures obtained following the 2006 Commonwealth Games have been installed,” said Casey’s arts and leisure manager Robyn Bowen. “Local residents and visitors to our city can now admire these permanent public art pieces.”
The Dolphinfish sculpture has been installed at Tooradin, west of the bridge off the South Gippsland highway, and the Leatherback Turtle sculpture has been placed in front of the Casey ARC at Narre Warren.
A third sculpture, the Roachfish, will be installed inside the new Casey RACE (Recreation and Aquatic Centre) in 2009.
Funding by the City of Casey allowed the sculptures original creators, Mother’s Art Productions to restore the aquatic sculptures, and interpretive signage will be installed.
The Dolphinfish and Leatherback Turtle sculptures were among 72 aquatic sculptures, each representing a Commonwealth nation, that Mother’s Art Productions were commissioned to make for the 2006 Commonwealth Games celebrations on the Yarra River.
