Police probe truck blaze

By Melissa Meehan
HALLAM CFA fire-fighters joined Dandenong crews who responded to a call to the dispatch yard of Bells Pure Ice on the corner of Cheltenham and Sinclair roads, Dandenong around 1.30am to find two trucks ablaze.
CFA officer-in-charge Andrew Turner said that fire crews were able to control the fire quite quickly.
“We had it under control within 10-15 minutes,” he said.
“Basically two were alight when we arrived, then during further investigation of the property we found that two others were smouldering and another looked like someone tried to set it on fire.”
He said fire fighters found other areas throughout the property that had also been set alight.
Detective Senior Constable Tom Pietrosanto said police believed the offenders poured fuel on six of the vehicles and set five on fire.
He said the cabins of the refrigerated trucks were extensively damaged and fuel was also poured on the office door of the business, but was not ignited.
A crime scene has been established at the scene and the Victoria Police arson chemist will investigate the fire.
“We are relying on members of the public to help us with any information they may have in relation to the fires,” Det Sen Cons Pietrosanto said.
Anyone with information can contact Dandenong police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
