Police will be targeting speeding motorists on high risk roads across Casey as part of Operation Bottas.
Commencing on Sunday 29 August, Operation Bottas is a high visibility operation aimed at reducing road trauma on rural and major thoroughfares including Ballarto, Berwick-Cranbourne, A’Beckett, Belgrave-Hallam, Heatherton, King, Fisheries, Evans, Thompsons and Hall roads.
There will be a focus on traffic-related offences, particularly speeding.
With continued growth, rural and semi-rural roads are now carrying greater volumes of vehicles, increasing the risk of collision and injury to motorists.
Many of these roads are high speed zones of 80km/h or more, again increasing the risk of serious injury when collisions occur.
Acting Sergeant Leigh Royal said police would be conducting stationary and mobile speed enforcement to detect speeding drivers and act as a deterrent.
“We know that if drivers see police on the road they check their speedo. We will be highly visible and we want to let people know what we are doing – that’s simply trying to keep everyone safe.”
Operation Bottas will conclude on Sunday 31 October.
