STUDENTS at Berwick Fields Primary School honoured CFA members and raised almost $3500 for school children affected by the bushfires.
The students donned CFA colours and pitched in money to raise funds for the State Schools’ Relief Committee Bushfire Appeal.
The State School’s Relief Committee started 80 years ago and provides students in need with footwear and clothing.
CEO David Schmidt said the committee was extremely busy this year providing students with apparel because of the economic crisis and now the bushfires.
“We provide them with high quality footwear, clothing, socks and jocks and the whole lot,” he said.
“One hundred per cent of donations go directly to the apparel for students in need.”
Teacher and community development co-ordinator Lara Laverman said the students were excited to donate to the appeal.
“Our school motto is ‘Together We Achieve’ and we are all striving to make a difference.” she said.
“Each family felt so strongly about the cause that each of the 687 students in the school managed to donate almost $5 each.”
The total amount raised for families affected by the bushfires was $3,485.60.
Team captains Charlie, Tan, Jamie, and Josh presented a giant cheque to Mr Schmidt on Tuesday.
“It is an outstanding effort made by the school community,” Mr Schmidt said.
