Interest building for construction expo

By Lia Bichel
A PROPOSED Construction Industry Careers Expo is aimed to boost the local infrastructure and create employment in Casey.
City of Casey councillor Sam Aziz said the council hoped to hold the event in conjunction with officers from the council’s economic development unit sometime this year.
“We feel that it is an opportune time to hold this event because of the general economic downturn we are experiencing, as well as the growth that will happen in the city in the next 20 years or so,” he said.
The expo was a response to a significant skills shortage in the area, and Cr Aziz said he hoped the occasion would encourage employment growth.
“We want Casey to be sustainable,” he said.
“It will hopefully help Casey to achieve multiple goals, such as employment growth from construction growth, economic growth, and provide residents with a diverse range of opportunities.”
The expo would be targeted at people who were interested in constructions and relating industries.
“The expo would be good for students who are looking to enter the trades after high school or for others who need a change in career,” Cr Aziz said.
“It’s a good opportunity to bring people together who are interested in construction to learn more about it.”
