RITCHIES Supa IGA in Narre Warren has contributed big bucks to help bushfire victims.
The grocery chain has donated $100,000 to the Red Cross and continues to accept cash donations for the Salvation Army appeal.
Customers at the Narre Warren branch are digging deep into their pockets to help.
“There have been a lot of donations; the attitude of the customers has been very positive,” Narre Warren store manager Paul Preyer said.
Instead of handing over cash, Community Benefits Card holders can change their chosen community group to channel 1 per cent of their purchases toward the bushfire appeal at their local store.
“If shoppers have an existing Community Benefits Card they will need to apply for a new one that goes directly to the bush fire appeals,” Mr Preyer said. “They don’t have to throw out their old card, and can pick and choose which card they want to use when they make their purchases.”
Mr Preyer said 1 per cent of total purchases would add up quickly.
In the past decade Ritchies Community Benefit Card shoppers have donated more than $250,000 to the Red Cross and more than $1.2 million to the Salvation Army.
All donation over $2 are tax deductible.
