CRANBOURNE Bowling Club’s Division One side blew away Burwood District by 30 shots in their finals clash on Saturday.
But Cranbourne lost by 25 shots to Yarra Glen in the Section Final at Heathmont on Sunday.
Cranbourne won three rinks in convincing fashion against Burwood District and was beaten narrowly on the fourth.
Ray Travica’s rink of Rob Reid, Stuart Huddle and Peter Colthup were superb in their 19-shot win, while Lyn Quigg led his team of Jarrad Boyd, Don O’Neil and David Grace to an 11-shot triumph.
Peter Elgar’s side – Graeme Wilde, Jack Wylie and Barry Thomas – bounced back to play its part for a five-shot success.
The rink of Pete DeLisle, Ian Barrenger and Steve Bentley lost narrowly.
Scores: Cranbourne 106 d Burwood District 76.
L. Quigg 23-12; B. Gay 24-29; R. Travica 33-14; P. Elgar 26-21.
In the Sectional Final, Cranbourne tried valiantly but Yarra Glen’s class players came to the fore.
Cranbourne began slowly and struggled with the pace of the green.
Skip Lyn Quigg’s rink was in trouble as its opponents went to a 19-2 shot lead, but the visitors challenged brilliantly to finish 19-22 and win 14 of the 25 ends.
Peter Elgar’s rink won 28-25 and was the only winner in a quality display, with lead Graeme Wilde all over the jack in a brilliant performance.
Ray Travica’s rink started well with all four players producing their best, but the Yarra Glen skip began converting into a crowed head with amazing shots.
Brian Gay’s rink couldn’t get back into the game after a slow start, despite winning its share of the ends.
Scores: Yarra Glen 96 d Cranbourne 71.
Cranbourne (2) fell 12 shots short against top side Coatesville in its final despite performing well on three rinks.
Coatesville went to an early lead, but Cranbourne fought back to make a scrap of the match with the rink of Glen Imeson performing brilliantly to win by 11 shots.
The consistent John Pentreath led his team to a three-shot victory.
Scores: Coatesville 89 d Cranbourne 77. G. Imeson 27-16; N. Fell 11-33; J. Pentreath 23-20; J. Imeson 16-20.
Top team Hampton Park defeated Cranbourne (4) by 19 shots in the final at Hampton Park.
The Parkers held a slender lead throughout the match and had some anxious moments after the break, but Cranbourne couldn’t maintain scoreboard pressure and the local side finished well.
Matt Boltong’s rink was the only winner with a two-shot margin.
The teams of skips Roger Roscoe and Jesus Carretero performed well and were narrowly beaten.
Scores: Hampton Park 101 d Cranbourne 82. M. Boltong 28-26; R. Roscoe 20-24; A. Dennis 13-28; J. Carretero 21-23.
Oakleigh outlasted Cranbourne (5) by eight shots in an entertaining final at Cranbourne.
Cranbourne almost stole the match with an amazing performance from skip Sofio Raiti and his team.
Raiti was in brilliant form as his side emerged victorious by 26 shots.
Scores: Oakleigh 106 d Cranbourne 98. S. Raiti 42-16; J. MacInnes 19-30; R. Sorensen 16-26; L. Patterson 21-34.
Waverley Golf overwhelmed Cranbourne (6) in their final by 23 shots.
Skip Gerry Winters and his team was the only winner with a seven-shot margin.
Lou Magri’s side was narrowly beaten by three shots.
Scores: Waverley Golf 97 d Cranbourne 74. G. Winters 24-17; L. Magri 20-23; J. Hanks 15-38; T. VanSchalm 15-19.
Cranbourne number-one Ladies’ pennant side thrashed Cheltenham by 57 shots in its penultimate match of the season.
Cranbourne won all four rinks in an even performance, with Kath Dudink’s rink the star with a 22-shot win.
Scores: Cranbourne 122 d Cheltenham 65. S. Venville 36-23; T. Lennon 29-10; K. Dudink 35-13; L. Whalley 22-19.
Cranbourne (2) struggled against an Edithvale side that won by 15 shots.
Scores: Edithvale 103 d Cranbourne 88. G. Dudink 27-19; J. MacInnes 22-28; B. Morrison 22-23; M. A. Allen 17-33.
Cranbourne (3) defeated Berwick by five shots, with Chris Rose’s rink the star with a margin of 13 shots.
Scores: Cranbourne 98 d Berwick 93.
