Hampton Park Primary School scores education award

Hampton Park Primary School's Community Hub took home the School Education Award.

Hampton Park Primary School is being recognised for strengthening multiculturalism as part of the Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence ceremony.

The awards were hosted by the Victorian Multicultural Commission on 7 December.

The Victorian Department of Education assesses the Education Award nominations and granted Hampton Park Primary School with this year’s award for School Education.

The school created a community hub that supports parents and caregivers to help their children in school and take an active part in the community.

Activities offered at the community hub included playgroups, computer skill classes, craft classes, story time, music classes for toddlers and English language classes to families who speak English as an additional language.

Hampton Park Primary School principal Elizabeth Davey said the hub was making a real difference.

‘Acknowledgement of any work is always exciting but in particular this award emphasises the special purpose the Community Hub encompasses,’ she said.

‘The work we do in the hub of making connections, empowering people to overcome a language barrier and to feel fully accepted in our school community is so rewarding and humbling.

‘This award means we are making a difference.’
