Oakgrove comes together for Christmas

The ladies from the Oakgrove Women’s Friendship Group came together on Wednesday, 15 December to celebrate the year of 2021 and acknowledge the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

People from India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, China and Pakistan came together via Zoom and onsite to learn from one another.

Oakgrove Community Centre manager Mary Amalraj said the Women’s Friendship Group was open for all to enjoy.

“Oakgrove Women’s Friendship Group is a wonderful place for all women form different cultural backgrounds to come in and support one another,” Ms Amalraj said.

“It is a place where women can learn new skills, feel connected and empowered.”

The group currently has around 25 members with most attending online due to Covid-19 regulations.

They usually meet every Wednesday from 10am to 12pm during school terms at the Oakgrove Community Centre.

Ms Amalraj said women were more than welcome to bring their children along.

She said she was looking forward to an exciting year of friendship in 2022.
