Local kids are receiving free colouring books as part of a national initiative to combat a concern that lengthy periods of online learning during the pandemic has deteriorated children’s fine motor skills.
Retailer Best&Less has launched a free campaign to encourage children to enhance their creativity, imagination and fine motor skills through colouring in.
With four themed, 56 page colouring in books available for free in stores from January and throughout February, and a total of 800,000 books to be given away, there’s a book for every child to enjoy and develop critical skills.
A new themed book will be available every two weeks.
The store is also offering the chance for day care and preschool centres to win a $10,000 colour makeover – which provides new paint for areas in need of a touch-up.
Best&Less chief executive officer Rodney Orrock said he was excited to give back to families and communities after a challenging two years for parents and their children.
“Family is at the heart of our brand and we are continually looking for ways to inspire the next generation,” he said.
“We want to support the next generation in their education and encourage handwriting from a young age.”
Media personality and mum of twins Tania Zaetta said her children were obsessed with colouring in.
“We try to keep screen time to a minimum, so it’s great to see a major retailer encouraging this too,” she said.
