From bushfires to a real home

THE Narre Warren First National managing director supported bushfire victims at a charity auction in Mernda last week.
Ross Neilson assisted First National auctioneer Paul Walker when a fully-furnished home and land package, donated by Porter Davis and Stockland was auctioned for $400,000.
“It was fantastic to be part of it,” Mr Neilson said.
The auction winner was bushfire survivor, Robert Richings, who lost his Kinglake West house and possessions on Black Saturday. He said he reached his maximum bid, which inevitably entitled him to walk away a proud new home owner.
“I was really excited, but a little nervous because buying a house isn’t something you do everyday,” he said.
Mr Richings said his wife Jenny was ecstatic about moving into the new house in 14 to 16 weeks.
He said they were also proud that their money would go to a charity that was helping other bushfire victims.
“Losing our house was devastating. We had just finished eight years of renovations,” he said. “But we also lost neighbours and friends, so it’s great knowing that Porter Davis and Stockland put the time and effort into raising money for bushfire victims.”
Mr Neilson said First National was also helping bushfire victims by supporting Australian Red Cross emergency REDiPlan, which helps assist people affected by natural disasters across Australia.
“First National is a humanity partner of the Red Cross,” he said. “They created the First National Foundation, and in the past two years, have raised over half a million dollars for REDiPlan. Local Frank Facey offices have already donated $30,000. It’s a great cause.”
