Water pipe bursts in Berwick

A water pipe has burst on Bemersyde Drive, near Chirnside Road in Berwick, causing traffic delays this morning.

The burst started at 4.03am and South East Water Australia crews are attending the scene to repair the pipe.

Speed and lane restrictions are in place between Chirnside Road and Vivienne Way and residents have been asked to allow extra time to travel through the area.

Disruptions may continue well into the evening as the clean up continues.

A South East Water Australia representative said about 22 properties in the area were without water.

“We’re hoping to have it back on this afternoon and in the meantime residents can go to 41 Bermersyde Drive and take clean containers to collect water from the hydrant.”

“We’ve had traffic management on site trying to direct people around the area.”

The spokesperson said the burst could have been caused by a change in temperature shifting the soil, placing pressure on the water pipe.

South East Water Australia thanked the community for their patience as repairs are carried out.
