Park fuel

FUEL reduction burns are set to take place this autumn in Narre Warren East.
The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) has planned the burns in three parks in Melbourne’s south east including 20 hectares of Lysterfield Park, north-east of Rockleigh Park Road.
DSE district fire manager Anthony Maxwell said the DSE was committed to planned burning for fuel reduction, ecological benefits and asset protection. “Planned burns don’t eliminate the risk of fire but they can help to reduce the rate of spread and assist in bringing the fire under control,” he said. “We are aware that seeing smoke will cause some anxiety for people, especially those affected by the recent bushfires, and we ask the community for their patience and tolerance throughout the autumn burning.”
