Applications are closing soon for the 2022 Creators Fund and local artists are encouraged to apply before it’s too late.

The Victorian Government fund provides creative professionals with a financial boost so they can work intensively on a project for a period of up to six months.

The support assists artists and creatives to undertake career-defining work and deliver projects.

Narre Warren South Member Gary Maas encouraged local creatives to investigate their eligibility as the deadline approaches.

“Our creative industries were hit hard by the global pandemic and I’m so happy to see further opportunities such as the Creators Fund for artists’ work and passions to be supported,” Mr Maas said.

“Creativity brings communities together as we experience, discuss and simply enjoy the ground-breaking works of talented and dedicated creators who have such an impact on our economy and society.

“I have met many local artists, performers and creatives and heard the stories of their struggles during the past two years.

“I hope we are seeing a new dawn and I encourage them to apply for any suitable grants from Creative Victoria.”

Grants between $20,000 and $50,000 are available to individuals and collectives working in all creative disciplines.

Modelled on initiatives in the science, medical and technology sectors, the fund supports undertakings of intensive research and development.

Past recipients include fashion designer Courtney Holm who undertook research into zero waste, robotics and compostable materials to help take her circular fashion label A.BCH to the next level; and virtual-reality filmmakers Studio Bento who are breaking new ground at the intersection of social media and virtual reality technologies.

Open to professional creatives at all career stages, the fund includes dedicated streams for First Peoples creatives and deaf and disabled creatives.

Applications for the 2022 Creators Fund close on Thursday 3 March.
