CASEY residents are being encouraged do something special and give blood to mark this year being the Year of the Blood Donor.
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service will be visiting Berwick, Narre Warren North, Cranbourne and Hampton Park in the coming months in an effort to recruit an extra 160,000 donors throughout the year.
Four Oaks Ward councillor Shar Balmes donated blood last week, with support from fellow ward councillor Karen Baxter, at the Narre Warren North public hall.
“It doesn’t cost you anything, it’s a good cause and one day you or your children might need their assistance,” Cr Balmes said.
The organisation needs blood of every type, every day, to save the lives of thousands of Australians.
“One in three Australians will need blood in their lifetime, yet only one in 30 donate,” a spokesperson from The Australian Red Cross Blood Service said.
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service will set up at the Balla Balla Centre in Cranbourne between 15 and 17 June, Berwick Secondary College on 19 June, the Narre Warren North public hall between 13 and 17 July and the Hampton Park community hall on 29 July.
To give blood or for details call 13 14 95 or visit www.donateblood.com.au.
