Scrap cash

By Lia Bichel
CASEY residents grabbed the glue and scissors last weekend in an effort to raise money for the Casey Kidz Klub in Hampton Park.
About 25 people turned up at the scrapbooking fundraiser, pitching in money for the organisation while designing their own keepsake.
“We had a demonstrator come to the event, and designer Alison Ellis helped everyone out. Everyone had a lot of fun,” event organiser Denise van der Veer said.
Casey Kidz Klub is a not-for-profit social activities program for children and teens with disabilities. It was launched five years ago and merged with disability service operator Marillac House earlier this year.
Councillor Amanda Stapledon said Casey Kidz Klub was an answer to the lack of out-of-school care for people with disabilities and was pleased with the local support towards the program.
“The support has been great. The community is really getting behind it,” Cr Stapledon said.
Almost 40 businesses and organisations sponsored the scrapbooking event, which ran from 10am until 4pm and included lunch and raffle prizes. It raised more than $1200.
“Denise van der Veer along with her family and Lyndall Slaney (organiser) contributed months of effort and expense in preparing this for the day,” Cr Stapledon said.
“Casey Kidz Klub parents and children are very grateful to them and to all the sponsors and supporters,” she said.
Ms van der Veer said she hoped to make the scrapbooking fundraiser an annual event.
