REMOVING illegal drugs from Casey streets is the aim of an upcoming police operation.
Operation CARE, the three month operation which ran earlier this year targeting drivers committing crime and traffic offences, is back bigger and better than ever, according to police.
Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch from the Casey Traffic Management Unit said the operation would include a focus on party-goers attempting to take illegal drugs into licensed venues in the City of Casey.
Police will be setting up the highly visible roadblocks around some of the municipality’s popular night spots, as well as continuing blitzes on Casey streets.
“We’ll be searching people as they’re heading into the pubs and clubs,” he said.
Sen Const Inderwisch said the dog squad would be helping with the police operation.
“This is one way police can target the anti-social issues in the area,” he said.
Casey Inspector Andrew Miles said Operation CARE was returning due to its outstanding success.
As part of Operation CARE last week, police set up along Ormond Road in Narre Warren South and Saxonwood Drive in Narre Warren and caught one drink driver, one unlicensed driver, and issued 14 defect notices.
Police also discovered two people not wearing seat belts. The sheriffs executed 218 warrants and cleaned up a total value of $56,885.40 in outstanding fines.
Detectives from the Casey Response Unit found two people in possession of cannabis in their vehicles.
Following the discovery, police charged one person from Berwick with cultivating cannabis.
Operation CARE will run until the end of the year.
