AN ASPIRING Narre Warren actress is hoping to gain the exposure she needs to launch her career by entering a modelling competition of an Australian men’s lifestyle magazine.
Vanessa Haldane has been selected from thousands of entries as one of FHM magazine’s top 100 in the publication’s ‘Girl Next Door’ competition.
Seven women will be short listed once voting closes on Sunday, 5 March, gaining the opportunity to travel to an exotic tropical location for an all-expenses-paid photo shoot.
From the seven entries, one woman will then be short-listed and given the opportunity to appear on the front cover of the popular magazine.
Ms Haldane said she had been modelling since she was a child, appearing in Barbie commercials at the age of eight.
But the 25-year-old said despite enjoying her part time vocation she was keen to swap the catwalk and cameras for the stage or screen.
Ms Haldane studied at the National Theatre Drama School in St Kilda for five years and recently landed the lead role in an upcoming independent short film called Barbara, in which she will play a vampire.
She has also had roles in two other independent films as well as working as a promotional and catwalk model and dabbling in some catalogue work.
She had also appeared in rival men’s lifestyle magazines Ralph and Inside Sport.
She also has a bikini sponsor and wears Luminessence swimwear.
The Narre Warren local has urged Casey residents to support her dream of gracing the cover of FHM by voting for her via text message.
Ms Haldane said she believed the competition could really help further her acting career.
“I wanted more exposure and I thought there was no better way than to be on the front cover of FHM,” she said.
“It will be good to add it to my portfolio of work and get my name and face out there.”
She said she enjoyed getting glamorous for the various photo shoots and had become used to being in front of the camera.
Her husband of two and a half years Wayne, a roof tiler, is also very supportive of her acting ambitions and attends all of her modelling competitions.
“He is proud of me and very supportive,” she said.
Ms Haldane will appear in the February issue of FHM (on sale now) wearing a black bikini and orange singlet.
Her individual voting code also appears and anyone interested in supporting the budding actress can text 006 to 193 939. A cost of 55 cents applies.
